Meet the Shutter Trails Podcast — Photography Stories, Tips, and Inspiration
A photography podcast like Shutter Trails is a place where images and ideas meet. It’s a space to explore the stories behind the photos, the techniques and gear that make them possible, and—most importantly—the creative mindset that brings them to life. Join me as I dive into topics I’m passionate about and, hopefully, ones you’re excited to explore as well.
You can tune in from anywhere: relaxing at home, commuting, editing photos, deep in a late-night research rabbit hole, or even out on the trail waiting for the perfect light. Regular episodes will be released once a month, with short, snapshot-sized segments sprinkled in between.
As the name suggests, Shutter Trails leans into the outdoors—landscapes, seascapes, and woodlands—but the conversation won’t stop there. We’ll venture into cityscapes, street photography, nightscapes, astrophotography, abstracts, and more. Most episodes will be recorded in the studio, but you’ll also hear clips from the field when inspiration strikes along the trail. Some episodes will feature solo deep dives into techniques and adventures; others will highlight meaningful conversations with fellow photographers.
Many of you know I’m a regular contributor on the Socratic Satsang philosophy podcast, and I’ve been a recurring voice on another podcast in the past. The idea for Shutter Trails took shape while preparing to interview a talented photographer for Socratic Satsang. I realized how much I enjoy meaningful creative conversations—and how much value there is in combining my experience with the perspectives of others. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, I hope you’ll find something genuinely useful here.
This podcast follows the same guiding principles as this blog and website: to provide photography education, information, and inspiration in an entertaining and ethical way. That includes honoring Leave No Trace principles, encouraging respectful dialogue, and offering a fresh perspective on outdoor and creative photography.
Shutter Trails isn’t just about me—it’s about the photography community, including you, my guests, and anyone in the industry who wants to share their story. I’m always open to suggestions for guests or topics you’d like explored.
The first episode launches Wednesday, January 7th, 2026. In it, you’ll learn a bit more about who I am, how this podcast came to be, and what you can expect moving forward. Shortly after, my first interview will feature a fascinating photography couple, timed with the one-year anniversary of their photo book about Vancouver Island. You won’t want to miss it—so be sure to subscribe to the channel or podcast feed to catch every episode of Shutter Trails.
You’ll find the podcast on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. When you’re there, don’t forget to subscribe and leave a review!
