Breaking Out of a Photography Rut - TM 06
If you’ve been a photographer for any length of time, you’ve probably had times when you’ve gotten yourself in a bit of a rut. It you haven’t, you probably will. Don’t worry, you will come out of it, sooner or later, but there are things you can do to help break out of it sooner and I talk a little about that in this episode. My specific solution will likely be different for me than it will for you, but you should be able to adapt it to something that does work for you.
When I talk about being in a photographic rut, I mean the kind of thing where either you start to get bored with your photography and don’t feel like getting out there with your camera, or where you do want to get out but when the time comes, you seem to find reasons (excuses) to not bother.
A little while back I found myself starting to get into one of these ruts. It was easy to find those excuses: work has been hectic lately, I have an old injury that has been slowing me down, I’ve taken on a bunch of (too many?) projects, etc. and I just kept putting off getting out with my camera.
The hardest part of getting out of the rut is realizing that you’re in one. Once you do that, then you can take steps to get back behind the camera and on the trail. Check out my podcast and listen to what I did to get back that enthusiasm and enjoy going out with my camera again. Here are the links to this episode:
