Guiding the Lens: Wild Landscapes and Mindful Photography with Fiona McLean

This is an interview I’ve been looking forward to for some time. Fiona McLean is a multi-disciplined photographer who splits her time between Canada and Scotland. We had a really good conversation and the hour went by all too quickly.

I really enjoy the perspective that a drone can give and she’s got some truly amazing drone photos.

Some of the topics we covered are:

How travel and nature photography shaped Fiona’s career;

Shooting across more than 40 countries and balancing life between two continents;

Her evolution from grand landscapes to waterfalls, wildlife, macro, and abstract work;

The creative highs (and nerve-wracking lows) of drone photography;

Becoming a certified hiking guide and combining outdoor leadership with photography;

Ethical photography practices—wildlife, geotagging, and environmental impact ;and

Advocacy for women in photography and barriers in the industry (and more)!
